Year 1 - 2026-2027

Class Name: Mo Farah Class

Teacher: Mr. Davey

Teaching Assistants: Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Peachey, Mrs. Harwin, Miss Stratton.

Welcome to Year 1!

This half-term we will have PE on a Monday afternoon (Indoors) and Forest School on a Tuesday afternoon.

PE Kit: Please make sure the children come with appropriate PE kits, including safe footwear and no jewellery or earrings are allowed to be worn on these days. Please also make sure that, as the weather changes, warm clothing is provided for outdoor PE lessons.

Forest School Kit: Change of clothes, waterproofs and wellies.

Homework:

Homework in Year 1 is three-fold. We ask that every child reads at home at least five times a week. This needs to be recorded in their yellow reading record so we can track how often children are reading. A ‘read’ should consist of the child reading to the adult (with support where needed) and a discussion being had about the words, images or any overarching storyline. The children will also take home a reading for pleasure book; this is a book to share and can be read by an adult – please do discuss the contents of this book too. Although we appreciate it can be a challenge to find the time, those children who do engage in this at home make more significant progress throughout the year in all areas of the curriculum.

In addition to this, the children will receive phonics sheets that focus on the sounds they have learned in class that week. The children will understand the process of this. This is to embed the new sounds they have learned and ensure they are not forgotten. Finally, we will be handing out log ins to Numbots. This is a fun gamified website where children can have fun and practise maths skills. A couple of sessions a week would be great!

I have attached the Curriculum Newsletter for the Autumn Term. This document explains what the children will be learning about from now until the Christmas holidays. Please do have a read through and ensure to check Class Dojo for any further updates.
