Autumn 2 2022

This half-term in Nursery we will be developing our story telling skills by using the new ideas given to us by the story teller who visited Nursery. Alongside this, the children will be developing their knowledge of key texts and engaging in a range of different activities from the books The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, Kipper’s Toy Box by Mick Inkpen and Alfie’s Christmas by Shirley Hughes. This half term, we will be introducing self-registration at the door. Please could you help your child to find their picture and name and then place it on the number frame. This will support them with number sense and early numeracy skills. Please do check Tapestry regularly. You are welcome to add your own photos to Tapestry; the children do enjoy telling us about what you share. You are also able to like and comment on posts. If you have any issues with the programme, please come and speak with us for support.

Autumn 1 2022

A huge welcome to all the new families who have joined us in Nursery this September. This half term, the children in N1 will be focusing on transition into Nursery and developing their confidence when engaging in new situations, activities or playing alongside the other children. We will be supporting the children’s understanding of counting in everyday contexts.

N2 will be developing their knowledge of rules within Nursery and developing friendships with other children. We will be embedding the children’s understanding of counting by saying one number for each item in order up to 5. The whole Nursery will be enjoying the Elmer stories by David Mckee, Things I like by Anthony Browne and The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Judith Kerr. The children have been engaging in learning and singing the rhymes Tommy Thumb, Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes and If you’re happy and you know it. It is so lovely to hear the children singing these during their play. Please do check Tapestry regularly.

In Nursery, we welcome and encourage parents to add photographs of your children’s adventures and achievements, as well as liking the observations added by Nursery. If you need any help with your account, please ask Mrs Green who will support you with this.

Summer 1 2022

This term we are going to be looking at ‘Growing and our Natural Environment’ in Nursery. We will be identifying and naming different plants and natural resources and watching our bulbs grow. All children will be given the chance to mark-make with natural resources and a range of different media such as paint, mud and clay (we apologise in advance, as they may get messy!). Early phonics will be focusing on environmental sounds and taking part in lots of different listening activities. In Maths, the children will be looking at patterns and developing their knowledge of shapes. The focus books this term will be ‘The Tiger who came to tea’ by Judith Kerr, ‘Oliver’s vegetables and fruit salad’ by Alison Bartlett and Vivian French as well as the traditional tale ‘Jack and the Bean Stalk.’

Children in Butterfly class will also be taking part in transition sessions and activities ready for them starting Reception class in September.

Spring 2 2022 Update

We are very excited to see how the children are flourishing and growing in confidence. The children have been encouraged to explore the nursery environment both inside and outside which will continue this half term as well.  Also, children will continue to develop their skills in sharing, playing alongside their peers and learning our rules and routines.

In Butterfly class, we are focusing on the book the ‘Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson and the concept of print when looking at a book.  We are also concentrating on recognising our own name when written.

Caterpillar children are learning about traditional tales and focusing on sitting whilst hearing a short story. They are doing amazingly well already and have displayed particular interest in the story ‘The Three Little Pigs.

Over the last few weeks, we have been developing our understanding of numbers which will continue this half term.  Caterpillar children are focusing on counting in everyday contexts up to 5 whilst Butterfly children are concentrating on one-to-one correspondence and how many are in a total (cardinal principle).
