Autumn 2 2022
It has been great to welcome all of the children back after the half-term. They are all settling in well and have great attitudes to learning. In English, we are currently reading ‘Follow that Map’ and then moving on to ’The Jolly Postman'. Towards the end of the term, we will be using all of the skills we have learned during English lessons to write some instructions in chronological order. We will also be learning how to letter write. In Maths, we will be learning about place value, addition and subtraction and measures.
Our question in science this term, is 'Do all animals have the same body parts?' We are looking at maps in Geography and our question is ' What do I know about my school?' In Religious Education, we are learning about Christianity with the question ' What is Christmas and advent? ' During our Art lessons, we learning about the artist Gustav Klimt, in particular his 'Birch forest' painting. We will also be preparing for our Christmas Nativity with along with Year Two. The children are very excited to be putting on a show for you. We will send out more information closer to the time, but for now the date for this can be found within the diary dates on the newsletter. Please can we remind you that our PE days are Monday (Indoors) and Friday (Outdoors) so please can children have the correct kit on these days.
Autumn 1 2022
It has been so lovely to welcome all of the children back after their six-week break. They have many exciting new topics and lessons they will be learning over the Autumn Term. In English, we are currently reading ‘Dogger’ and then moving on to ’Lost in the Toy Museum'. Towards the end of the term, they will be using all of the skills they have learned during their English lessons to make an information leaflet. In Maths, we are learning about place value and measures. Our question in Science this term is 'What are the things I use made from?'
Our History question is 'Are my toys the same as my grandparents?' whilst in Religious Education we are learning about Christianity with the question 'What makes a Christian person special?' During our Design Technology lessons, we are looking at how toys move and making our own moving toys. Our big question is ' How can I make a toy move?' The children's attitudes to learning have already blown us away! We are excited to watch as they learn and grow this year. We hope they are excited too!
Summer 1 2022
Our topic focus in Geography is ‘Why is March not the capital of the UK?’ We will be learning about the different countries in the United Kingdom and discussing the contract between our local area and the capital city. This will link to our English as we will be looking at the story ‘Katie in London’ and writing our own versions of the story. In Science we will be exploring the question: ’How are living things affected by the seasons?’ where we will be looking at the impact the seasons have on different animals, and how the day length varies in different seasons. In Maths this term, we will be working on numbers 0 to 20, numbers 0 to 50 and money.
Reminder: This half term indoor PE will be on a Tuesday and outdoor PE will be on a Thursday.
Spring 2 2022 Update
In English this half term, we are reading the story ‘Daisy Saves The Day’ by Shirley Hughes where we will be discovering more about what the Victorian Era was like for children. We will be writing two diary entries. One of these entries will be as ourselves, the other in the role of a Victorian child.
This links with our History focus on the Victorian Era where we will be exploring the question ‘how have children’s lives changed since the Victorian times?’ We will be learning about children’s experiences of our children and families. school, work and home during the Victorian period and comparing it to our lives now.
In Maths, we will be working on additive structures including aggregation, augmentation, partitioning and reduction. We will then move on to addition and subtraction facts within 10.
Our Science focus for this half term is on plants and we will be investigating the question ‘what is a plant?’ This will involve being able to identify and name a variety of common wild and garden plants, including deciduous and evergreen trees. We will also be learning about the basic structure of a range of common flowering plants, including trees.
Indoor PE takes place on a Monday where we will be doing gymnastics. On Thursday, we are outside in PE where we will be doing tag rugby.
We are continuing to teach daily phonics sessions and are currently revisiting all phase 5 sounds. Please can we ask that you continue to read with your child daily and complete the home learning tasks each week. Thank you!
