Autumn 2 2022
In Year Four this half term, our History lessons continue to focus on the Romans answering the question 'How did the Romans change Britain?' before moving onto our Geography where we will be answering the question,' How is Rome different to the Fens?'. We will explore modern day Rome as well as looking at some of the key historical features. We will be designing and making Roman inspired purses in DT where we will be using our newly learnt sewing skills to decorate our creations. In Science, we will be answering the question, 'Is electricity dangerous?' and will explore the different ways that we source electricity, how to keep safe and how to make a working circuit.
In English, we begin the half term by writing an explanation text based on How to become a Roman Soldier, then we will move onto a narrative based on the book Escape from Pompeii. In Maths, we will continue to work on multiplication and division and will be learning strategies to help us remember our times tables. After our great success with bench ball last term, our indoor PE is now dodgeball and outdoor PE is tennis. Music lessons will focus on learning how to play the Glockenspiels and Spanish is beginning by learning how to talk about family.
Autumn 1 2022
This half term our History lessons are focussed on the Romans answering the question 'How did the Romans change Britain?' We will be learning all about the invasions of Britain and how this changed life for the Celts, leading to the revolt by Boudicca. In Art, we will be looking at mosaics and the children will have the opportunity to make a mosaic both individually and as part of a group.
In Maths, we began the term recapping place value and applied this knowledge to numbers beyond one thousand. We will then be moving onto addition and subtraction and applying this to different scenarios later in the term.
In PE this term, we will be teaching about rotation in indoor PE and invasion games for outdoor PE. In Science, we will be looking at Sound and how we hear.
Summer 1 2022
This half term, Year 4 will have outdoor PE on a Wednesday and swimming on Fridays which will replace indoor PE for this term. Our topic focus for this half term is Geography where we will be studying North and South America and how similar they are. Linked to this, we will be writing a persuasive letter in English to send to Neale–Wade in an attempt to persuade them to run a school trip to North or South America! Our Teaching Reading lessons also link to our study of the Americas and we will be basing our learning on the book ‘The Indian in the Cupboard’.
In Maths, we have started the half term looking at decimals, focussing on tenths and hundredths using our knowledge of fractions to support this. In Science, we will be finding out what happens to food in the mouth and beyond! We are looking forward to a visit from a Dental Hygienist later in the term and in PSHCE, we are thinking about managing risk. We are looking forward to more exciting learning as the term progresses!
Invertebrate Hunt!
On Monday 7th March, Year 4 went on an invertebrate hunt in our Forest School area as part of our science topic, 'Are all living things in danger?' We found lots of exciting creepy crawlies including millipedes, snails and spiders. We also observed some baby frogs in the pond which we remembered were vertebrates from our previous learning!
