What is Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium represents additional funding that the Government allocates to schools for each child considered to be disadvantaged from when they start school in Reception through to Year 11. Evidence suggests that poverty or low income is the single most important factor in predicting a child's future life changes. In order to address these underlying issues, the Government has allocated additional funding for children who come from low income backgrounds. As soon as a child is eligible for free school meals (FSM) they are entitled to funding allocation for the next six years.
Children who are in care or have been in care for one day or more are also eligible for enhanced funding.
Those children whose families serve in the Forces are also eligible to a special 'Service Premium'.
How do I know if my child is eligible? How do I apply?
If you are receiving any of the eligible benefits listed on the Local Authority's free school meals page, you can apply for free school meals which will then trigger our school to receive the Pupil Premium funding. As part of our school registration process and yearly data checks, you will also have the option to sign up for pupil premium. How does Burrowmoor spend the funding we receive?
Once we receive the funding, we have to decide how it is spent. The money is ringfenced to support the learning and development of all children in receipt of the premium. Therefore, it is not an individual pot of money but one that is a combined sum that is used to improve the life chances of all those deemed as disadvantaged.
Each year we have to review our Pupil Premium spending and the impact it has on children. Here is the latest plan with last year's review included at the end:
